About The
Artist
Marlee's work explores her lived experience as a woman navigating power, intimacy, and self-image. Through painting, photography, and installation, she examines the tension between masculine and feminine identities, sexual double standards, and the lasting impact of domestic abuse and sexual assault. Using symbolism, dramatic lighting, and surreal distortion, McFarlin creates work that feels both vulnerable and confrontational making the body a central site of tension. Her work invites viewers to consider how women are seen, how they see themselves, and how personal history shapes identity.
Marlee McFarlin is a painter and photographer based in Denton, Texas. Currently a senior at the University of North Texas, she is pursuing a BFA in studio arts with a concentration in drawing and painting and a minor in photography.
